    Return Policy

This Return Policy is incorporated by reference into the Rare Maine Coons Adoption Agreement and is binding upon the execution of that agreement. Please read carefully before completing your adoption.

Last Updated: April 14, 2025  |  Effective for all adoptions from Rare Maine Coons

    1. All Sales Are Final

All kitten sales and adoptions made through Rare Maine Coons are final and non-refundable. No returns will be accepted and no refunds will be issued for any of the following reasons, including but not limited to:

    • Change of mind, lifestyle, or personal circumstances
    • Allergies discovered after adoption
    • Incompatibility with existing pets or family members
    • Behavioral traits (including energy level, vocalization, or independence)
    • Coat texture, color variation, or adult size not meeting expectations
    • Landlord, housing, or HOA restrictions discovered after adoption
    • Travel or relocation of the adopter

    2. Health Guarantee — 72-Hour Vet Check

Rare Maine Coons guarantees that every kitten is free from congenital illness and communicable disease at the time of adoption. All kittens are health-checked and cleared by a licensed veterinarian prior to release.

To activate this guarantee, the adopter must:

    • Have the kitten examined by a licensed veterinarian within 72 hours of taking physical possession.
    • Notify Rare Maine Coons in writing (email or text) within 72 hours of any veterinarian-confirmed health issue.
    • Provide a written veterinarian report documenting the diagnosis.

If a verifiable, congenital illness is confirmed by a licensed veterinarian within this 72-hour window, Rare Maine Coons will, at its sole discretion, offer either a replacement kitten of equal value (when available) or a store credit toward a future adoption. No cash refunds will be issued under any circumstances.

    3. HCM (Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy) Genetic Guarantee

All of our breeding cats are 3-generation DNA and HCM echo-tested negative. In the unlikely event that a kitten adopted from Rare Maine Coons is diagnosed with hereditary HCM confirmed through DNA testing (not echo alone) within two (2) years of adoption:

    • The adopter must provide written documentation of the genetic DNA diagnosis from a board-certified veterinary cardiologist.
    • Rare Maine Coons will offer a partial store credit toward a future adoption, at our discretion.
    • This guarantee does not cover HCM that is environmentally caused, diet-related, or not confirmed as hereditary through genetic testing.
    • No refunds or returns will be issued under this clause.

    4. No Rehoming or Resale Clause

The adopter agrees never to sell, transfer, give away, abandon, surrender to a shelter, or otherwise rehome the kitten to any third party without first contacting Rare Maine Coons.

If the adopter is unable to care for the kitten at any point in the cat's lifetime, the kitten must be returned to Rare Maine Coons. No refund or compensation will be provided upon return. The adopter assumes all costs associated with returning the kitten, including transportation.

Violation of this clause constitutes a breach of the Adoption Agreement and Rare Maine Coons reserves the right to pursue all available legal remedies.

    5. Guarantee Exclusions

All health guarantees are rendered null and void if:

    • The kitten is not taken to a licensed veterinarian within 72 hours of pickup or delivery.
    • The adopter allows the kitten outdoors unsupervised.
    • The kitten is exposed to other cats, dogs, or animals before being fully vaccinated.
    • The kitten is fed a diet not approved by a licensed veterinarian (including raw food diets not properly managed).
    • The adopter fails to maintain recommended vaccination and veterinary schedules.
    • The kitten is surrendered to a third party, shelter, or rescue.
    • The adopter has provided false information in the adoption application.

    6. Deposits

Rare Maine Coons does not require a deposit to hold a kitten. Full payment is required only when the adopter is ready to take delivery of the kitten. Once full payment is received and delivery or pickup is confirmed, the sale is final and all terms of this policy apply.
